Germany: Beech Log Exports up 20%

In January, Germany's Beech log exports increased by 20% compared to the same month last year. Export value increased by 40%. With a calculated average price of € 102/m³ across all destinations, this means a rise of 16.7%.
For the most important export countries, the following average prices can be calculated from the January figures: China € 109/m³ (ø I-XII/2010: € 106/m³), Austria € 69/m³ (66), Sweden € 69/m³ (64) and Japan € 177/m³ (176).... [more...]

Sweden: Softwood Lumber Prices Fall

Despite the crisis in Levant States in January, Sweden's softwood lumber exports were up 4.7% compared to the reference month last year. Over all, rough and planed goods, a total of 836,000 m³ were exported. However, prices have fallen further.... [more...]

Germany: Beech Lumber Exports in January

In January, Beech lumber exports of German sawmills amounted to 27,300 m³, up 8.5% compared to the previous year. Across all destinations average price was at € 333.3/m³, above the average in 2010 (324.3).
For the most important destinations, the following average prices for Beech lumber can be deduced from the Destatis figures in January: China € 272.9/m³ (ø I-XII/2010: € 251.5/m³), Poland € 261/m³ (263), United States € 336.4/m³ (355), India € 240.5/m³ ( 247.5) and France € 526.7/m³ (552).... Germany: Oak Log Exports Start Well Into 2011

In January, Germany's Oak logs exports amounted to 6,700 m³, up 35.4% compared to the reference month of the previous year. Furthermore, January exports were higher than exports in December (4,100 m³). Unlike in December, January brought again deliveries to Sweden. Switzerland: Forestry to Support Sawmill in Domat/Ems

Forest owners in the Grisons support a continuation of the insolvent Mayr-Melnhof sawmill in Domat/Ems. At a media conference last week, the Forestry Association Selva presented a survey among Swiss forest owners, indicating log deliveries of about 150,000 m³/year from forests in the Grisons to the sawmill.... Germany: Regional Surplus in Sawmill Residues

Closures of the particleboard plants in Bischweier (Kronospan) and Ebersdorf (Pfleiderer) impact the market for sawmill residues like wood chips, bark or shavings. In June, the Pfleiderer plant in Nidda will accrue. So far, effects are regional. In the southwest and in the northern region of Bavaria and in Thuringia, a surplus in sawdust is noticeable.... France: Great Leap in Oak Lumber Exports to China

In 2010, Oak lumber exports of French sawmills to China made a great leap. However, statistics also include squared logs (log without slabs). Moreover, one can assume that at least some of the lumber exports to Belgium were shipped to Asia. Besides China, export growth in shipments to Malaysia was remarkable as well and amounted to 10.507 m³ compared with 294 m³ one year earlier.... [more...]

Germany: Producer Prices For Wood Products in February

In February, prices of lumber and wood products showed little change compared to January. Increases in lumber assortments and finger-jointed squares and beams (KVH) were mostly announced not until March. Particle board prices are stable, higher prices for the full year 2011 are put through. There are significant changes just for laminate floorings and packaging timber.... [more...]
