Södra starts a new company

The Swedish forestry group, Södra, has formed a new company, Södra Building Systems AB, to develop, manufacture and market timber-based building components and building systems. Today the company has ten employees and anticipates rapid expansion in coming years. Peter Carlsson has been appointed Managing Director. Sawnwood production in Finland declined dramatically in Dec 2000

In the fourth quarter of the year 2000, the sawnwood production in Finland (3,5 million m3) declined by 3,5% comparing with the previous year. Towards the end of the year 2000, the sawnwood production fell over 20% when compared to December 1999. New way to preserve wood

A new preservative treatment method that uses supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) to carry preservatives into wood is being developed at CSIRO Forestry and Forest Products. Production sets new records

Production rose to record levels in every main category. Plywood production showed the fastest growth, rising by over 8% compared with the previous year.
