The German wood industry grew by 2.4% in 2016

The German wood industry increased its sales in 2016 by 2.4%, up to EUR 35 billion. In 2015 the industry increased its sales by 3.1%. Currently, 939 companies operate in the German wood industry and the emplyment rose slightly in 2016 to 149,872 employees.

Business abroad underperformed last year. According to the Association of the German Wood Industry (HDH) exports dropped by 1.9%. On the domestic market, sales increasd by 2.6%. The positive development of the domestic market is largely due to the construction boom of last year, which positively affected all sub-sectors of the German timber industry, directly or indirectly. 

Accordingly, the construction-related field had a plus of 8% growth. It was followed by the wood packaging industry with an increase of 5.1% and the parquet industry with an increase of 4.2% and the furniture industry with a sales increase of 3.2%.
