China: log imports up 23% in January

China imported 1,9 million cubic metres of lumber in January 2014, at an average price of US$ 317 per m³, according to a RISI report. This represents a 9 percent increase as compared to the same month of 2013, when imports of lumber reached 1,75 million m³. Chines log imports registered a 23% surge in January, up to 4,18 million m³ (Jan. 2013: 3,39 million m³), at an average cost of US$ 227 per m³.

In February, however, imports decreased due to the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Month-over-month, pulp imports were down by 16%, lumber imports by 10%, while log imports increased 3%. Regarding prices, in February 2014 they've declined 2% for pulp imports, and increased 3% for lumber and 4% for logs.
