According to a WoodMarkets report, the Chinese forest products industry output value and trade value has reached US$ 726 billion and US$ 125 billion in 2013. This represents a 13% increase and 5% respectively, as compared to 2012. China's domestic log production reached 83,7 million cubic meters, a 3% rise over 2012.
New Zealand has become for the first time China's largest log supplier, overtaking Russia. In 2013, New Zealand shipped 11,5 million cubic meters of logs to China, a 25% share of the overall Chinese imports.
However, Russia managed to surpass Canada as the largest lumber supplier. In 2013, Russian exported 7 million cubic meters of lumber to China and currently holds a 29% market share of all Chinese lumber imports.
New Zealand's log exports to China rose 33,4% in volume as compared to 2012, while Russian log exports declined 8% in volume over 2012, being the only country in the top 10 suppliers with decreased volume compared with 2012.
