Russia: exports of the forest industry goods increased in volume terms

In January-June 2016 total Russian exports came up to US$130.4 billion, 28.7% down y-o-y. According to the customs statistics data, in Janurary-June 2016 the share of logs and pulp and paper goods equalled 3.5 % out of total Russian exports (2.5% in January-June 2015), reports Russian Federal Customs Service.  

In volume terms, exports of this commodity group grew by 14.2%. Russian sawn timber exports increased by 24.4%, pulp exports – by 7.0%, plywood exports – by 18.9%, unprocessed timber – by 8.2%. Russian newsprint exports decreased in volume by 7.9%.

In January-June 2016, share of the Russian logs and pulp and paper goods in the total exports to the CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States) came up to 4.4% (January-June 2015 – 3.7%). Exports of the abovementioned goods went down both in value and in volume terms, by 12.3% and 10.0% respectively. Sawn timber exports to the CIS countries in volume terms reduced by 20.6%, pulp exports – by 10.9%, plywood exports – by 6.2%, newsprint exports – by 6.6%.
