Increased roundwood sales and prices in Norway

A total of 2.5 million cubic metres of timber were cut for sale in the first quarter of 2014, Statistics Norway reports. This is 10% more than in the corresponding quarter of 2013. The average timber price rose by 11% in the same period.

In the first quarter of 2014, the aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 856 million (EUR 103,4 million); 22% more than in the corresponding quarter the previous year. According to preliminary calculations, forest owners obtained NOK 345 per cubic metre (EUR 41.68); an increase of NOK 35 (EUR 4.23) compared with the first quarter of 2013.

In the same period, the average price per cubic metre of pulpwood of spruce and pine decreased by NOK 11 (EUR 1.33) and the average price of saw logs of spruce and pine increased by NOK 61 (EUR 7.37).
