Romanian police seized 90,000 m3 of illegal wood in 2016

In 2016, Romania's police has seized more than 90,000 m3 of wood and imposed almost 21,000 sanctions,  totaling 30.124 million lei (6.64 millon EUR), while prosecuting 3288 people for offenses in this area.

During the past year, the Directorate of Public Order under the supervision of the Romanian Police, have initiated and coordinated 7 actions, aimed mainly at limiting illegal cutting of trees.

The Romanian police have carried out activities to combat illegal logging of trees and associated illegal acts of exploitation, circulation, storage, primary processing and marketing of timber and, as a result, 15% fewer forestry crimes have occurred in 2015 and 55.5% were complaints from office.

Following the administration of evidences, in 2016, the police seized 90 604 m3. of wood and applied 20.884 sanctions, totaling 30.124 million lei.

3,388 calls were received by S.N.U.A.U. 112, regarding illegal shipments of wood materials. Of these, 372 were confirmed as illegal.
