As the cold weather continues, it leads to a persistently high demand for wood pellets in Germany. Thus, the price of EN plus wood pellets rose by 0.7% during March 2017, as compared to February, reaching EUR 255.18/tonne.

The price is also 6.5% higher than in March 2016, while the price advantage over natural gas is 17% and of 6% as compared to fuel oil, according to the survey of the German Energy Wood and Pellet Association (DEPV).

"Despite persistently high demand, the pellet prices in March have hardly changed, which is due to the stable supply situation," says Martin Bentele, Managing Director of DEPV.

During March 2017, the wood pellets’ price has the following regional differences: in northern Germany the price was the most favorable, set at EUR 249,75/t (for a 6 t purchase). In central Germany, the price is EUR 251,90/t, while in southern Germany the 6 t amount costs EUR 259,34/t.

Larger quantities (26 t) were traded in March in the following conditions: central Germany: EUR 234,46/t; south: EUR 245,09/t, north and east: EUR 230,59/t. (all including VAT).
