Tyrol: Spruce sawlogs price up, but still at the lowest level in 5 years

In October, the average price for the main sawlog assortments in Tyrol has increased significantly. One of the reasons is the sharp price rise detected in East Tyrol. In comparison, in East Tyrol for the main spruce assortment (quality BC 2a +) one can pay 97,12 EUR/m3; in North Tyrol for the same assortment the price is 84,97 EUR/cbm. Despite the price increase, the average spruce sawlog price in Tyrol hasn't recovered since the storm Niklas and at 86,51 EUR/m3 is at the lowest level since 2010. In other Austrian provinces, there is a significantly higher price level than in North Tyrol. 

Roundwood price overview in Tyrol; October 2015:

Spruce sawlogs - quality class B/C; 2a-3b: € 86,51 / m³ (+2,7%). The price has increased significantly in October. Evaluation volume:  13,850 m3.

White pine -(quality class B/C): € 63,45 / m³. Evaluation volume: 1,048 m³.

• Spruce sawlogs- quality class Cx; 2a-3b: € 61,28 / m³ (+1,3%). The price of this range has increased slightly in October. Evaluation volume: 3,295 m3.

• Spruce sawlogs (small diameters) B/C: € 63,67 / m³ (+1,5%). The price for small diameter spruce sawlogs has increased slightly in October.  Evaluation volume: 1,059 m3.

• Soft firewood:  30,32€ / m³ (+2,2%). The price of firewood is up slightly in October. Evaluation volume: 2,910 m3. 

 

Quarterly prices 01.08.2015 to 31.10.2015

• Larch sawlogs, quality B/C: € 105,62 / m3; Evaluation volume:  1,572 m3.

• Fir sawlogs quality B/C: € 73,84 / m3; Evaluation volume: 1,975 m3.

• Pulpwood: € 31,53 / m3; Evaluation volume: 2,317 m3.

 

The monthly index in October was at an average price of € 86.51/m3 and rose by 2,35%. The quarterly index dropped sharply in Q3 by -5,46% as compared to Q2.
